About Vision Rehabilitation

What is a Vision Rehabilitation exam?

We help you maximize your current level of vision by using prescription magnifiers, telescopes, CCTVs, and technology applications to help you perform the tasks you enjoy in a new and different way.

We understand vision loss can be frustrating. We will take as many sessions as you need in order to help you fully understand how to work with new devices and maximize your independence.

Is a Vision Rehabilitation exam right for me?

Vision rehabilitation exams are highly specialized and they are not right for every person or every level of vision loss. A good candidate for a vision rehab exam is someone who has specific tasks they can no longer accomplish with their current level of vision while wearing updated glasses. A good candidate must also be highly motivated, be patient, and be willing to learn new things in new ways.

How do I prepare for a Vision Rehabilitation exam?

Because a vision rehabilitation exam builds on a comprehensive eye exam, every applicant must have had a comprehensive eye exam within the last 3 months with with us or with another doctor. If the exam was not with us, patients must bring a copy of this exam with them on the day of their appointment.

Vision rehabilitation exams can be packed with lots of new information. If possible, it would be helpful to bring a friend or a family member with you to help you remember all the new information you are going to be getting.

List of what to bring to a Vision Rehabilitation exam:

  • all current glasses you wear (even the ones you don't like)
  • all low vision devices you use (magnifiers etc.)
  • a list of things you are having trouble with due to your vision
  • materials needed to assist with those goals (if you are having trouble seeing to write out checks, bring your checkbook)
  • your insurance information
  • a copy of your last full eye exam (must be within the last 3 months)
  • a friend or family member (optional)
  • a positive attitude (required)
